There is No White Genocide Going on In South Africa.

What is happening, however, is that there is an attempt, imperfect as it may be, to “reclaim” the land of that very rich country from white settlers, aka Boers. Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Front (EFF), a self described “Sankarist” formation (Malema is a former ANC youth activist) has been at the forefront of class struggle in South Africa, has been pushing for expropriation for a while, and has attracted much attention internationally for being to the Left of the ANC which can appropriately be described as a comprador party that has abdicated the principles that brought it international prestige in the first place. I don’t trust the ANC, beholden to feudal type traditional leaders and big business interests, with land reform. I’d consider Mandela himself a centrist on a good day and a rightist on a bad one to be perfectly frank. His coming to power through elections and promotion of a “rainbow capitalist South Africa” and the ANC following him along this conciliatory path has helped lead to the bad position that the masses of Black South Africans have found themselves in. He had his moments, and the armed struggle waged by the ANC/SACP definitely should be learned from (particularly their document ‘Mastering Secret Work’) but a Maoist analysis of the political line of the ANC in power is necessarily critical of the neoliberalism that has infected this ostensibly “revolutionary political party”. It’s rent with corruption and compradorism from top to bottom, and the EFF correctly ruptured with it. The EFF has its own problems, mainly that it seems to be very eclectic politically and also engages with the electoral cretinism along with several misogynistic/reactionary statements from leadership that don’t need to be present in a self described “Sankarist/Marxist-Leninist” party, but it is certainly much more correctly guided than the ANC and its palming off rainbow capitalism and neoliberalism as “revolutionary” and good for South Africa. Particularly of interest is its history of direct action exemplified by its targeting, wrecking and and shutting down of several H&M stores after the “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” debacle. This is power that we should be displaying in the US. Anything which ruptures with and breaks the back of the ANC domination of South African political life is a good thing. Furthermore, anything which terrorizes and scares the shit out of the Boers (South African white farmers which continue to have a stranglehold on that country’s land and economic life) is a good thing. To be quite honest, this land reform is not that which is demanded by the masses of Black South Africans. A Maoist party would have been redistributing land all the way back in the days of anti-apartheid/anti-settler armed struggle as part of its maximum program, as a minimum it would have been reducing rent. The ANC is not seizing land handing it out to the masses of black people, this isn’t in their interests. The ANC is not a revolutionary Communist Party and serves to enrich itself and the business interests that its members have their fingers in. However, making the Boers sweat is a good thing. Hopefully, they will all abandon their land and leave South Africa for good. They have no business there, just as white settlers had no business in Zimbabwe or Kenya. The land of South Africa belongs not to white settlers or the compradors of the African National Congress, but to the masses of Black workers and peasants who produce all that country’s wealth. There is no white genocide in South Africa, because the Boers can not be dispossessed of their ill-gotten wealth by any other than a Maoist political party beholden to the masses. No amount of anti-Boer rhetoric can conceal the fact that the ANC has sold out and is not up to this task.
