Colonizers and Their Spectacles

So, the Blues, my city’s ice hockey team, won the Stanley Cup. White Saint Louis, who remains blissfully and willfully aware of the real and systemic problems that are literally killing people, proceeded to leave their well manicured lawns in such places as Ladue, West County, Saint Charles and the “better” parts of the Metro East to flood the downtown streets of a city that otherwise scares the shit out of them because most of the people do not look like them. These are the same colonizers who ignored or ran over protesters who have risen twice in the past five years, called for the murders, rapes, and tortures of my comrades in news articles, praised the police when they shoot us, mock and slander activists and try to get us fired from our jobs. Now, the same people who tell us to quit clogging the roadways proceeded to block off the roadway simply because they live in a city that is also occupied by very well paid athletes who happened to have beaten other athletes to win the Stanley Cup. The Stanley Cup means nothing to black people, hockey is a racist sport and we do not watch it or go to the games where we’d be called racial slurs and have to deck some settler in their face (and catch the charge). The only thing that Black people in STL gave a shit about was the money to be made hustling off the rich colonizers who decided to venture downtown for the games and the parade. Since they refuse to pay reparations, and will continue to do so until we have a people’s army capable of razing their suburbs to the ground, we have the right to take them whether it be through a pistol in the face or the sale of counterfeit merchandise, so in a way I suppose this settler spectacle offered some relief to the people in STL that actually matter, working class and semi-working class Black people.
